Inaugural ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Working Group Meeting, Perth, Australia

Inaugural ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Working Group Meeting, Perth, AustraliaAt the inaugural EWG meeting in Perth, delegates identified a set of priority maritime security issues that concern all ADMM-Plus countries. These included

  • piracy,
  • protection of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOC),
  • maritime terrorism,
  • protection of the marine environment and
  • transnational crime.

Delegates noted the need to cooperate, share information and respond together to both traditional and nontraditional maritime security challenges.

They agreed that the EWG should conduct table-top and field exercises to build capacity within ADMM-Plus.

The EWG also recognised that whilst Defence institutions have a key role and responsibility in ensuring maritime security, a whole of government response is needed and that coordination with existing structures and organisations is important.
